Isostatic Molding

CTL at workHydrostatic pressure is generated exterior to the molded material and introduced to the structure through a thin membrane. Pressure is applied evenly to all sides of the material throughout the molding process. CTL offers both Autoclave and oven processing.

Autoclave Processing capabilities to handle parts up to 120” diameter X 240” in length with maximum cure temperatures of 750ºF

Air Circulating Ovens with maximum temperatures of up to 1000 ºF

Autoclaves and Ovens are ASC Processor Controlled

Compression Molding

Compression MoldingMolding process in which a part is shaped by placing the reinforcement and resin into the mold cavity Once the mold is closed, hydrostatic pressure and heat are applied to cure the part.

Presses capabilities from 1600 tons, 72” x 72” plattens to 14 Ton with 21” x 24” platens. CTL also employ “Smart Press Technology” in many of its presses.

This Technology allows the press to make concurrent adjustments to variable mold conditions, minimizing scrap and improving thru-put.

Resin Transfer Molding

Resin Transfer MoldingThe process involves first generating a preform from a dry or slightly tackified fibrous reinforcement. This is then placed in the mold cavity. Once enclosed air is evacuated from the structure and the catalyzed matrix resin is introduced in a controlled rate

CTL has teamed with major aerospace corporations in the design, development, and qualification of complex Resin Transfer Molded parts.

Sandwich Structures

These composite structures are composed of a lightweight core (Typically Honeycomb or a Structural Foam) encapsulated by relatively thin, structural skins.

Sandwich Structures

CTL has capability to produce both flat and highly controlled contoured sandwich structures

Specialized Composites Facilities

The facility has been specifically engineered to optimize composite processing.

Composite Materials

Composites materials are defined as combination consisting of at least two different materials. Fiber Reinforced Polymer composites, generally consist of a reinforcement and a Matrix Resin System.

Matrix (Resin)

  • Polyimides ( PMR-15)
  • Bismaleimide -BMI
  • Epoxy
  • Cyanate Ester
  • Polyester
  • Phenolic
  • Ceramic

Reinforcement

  • Glass
  • Carbon
  • Aramids (Kevlar ©)
  • Quartz
  • Nextel Fiber (Aluminized Fiber)
